Running Book Reviews with Alan and Liz
Born to Run, by Christopher McDougall
What?!! You haven't read Born to Run?! Even if you have read Born to Run, this episode should remind you of all the details you've forgotten.
Born to Run is Christopher McDougal's journey to find out why running always got him injured. It leads him to discovering a tribe of running people who live in the Mexican Copper Canyons, and are so shy that very few people have seen them. The Tarahumara use running as transportation, and also for fun, running very long distances, on rough terrain, in home-made sandals, and never get injured; this is why Chris decides to try to find this tribe, and this brings him on an epic adventure. He ends up meeting many people along the way and the book is peppered with stories.
We were not able to get the author for this episode, but we talk you through the book, and add our own thoughts and discoveries.
We are dedicating this episode to a member of the running community, and one of our loyal listeners, who passed away recently. This episode is dedicated to Michel Bonnell (a.k.a. Mike Runs). Our hearts go out to Michel's family and friends.
